Devil In My Dining Room
04:05
|
|||
Lyrics:
There’s a devil in my dining room,
And he’s sippin' on a glass of whisky,
A devil in my dining room
And I don't think he’ll ever leave me.
Well there’s hoof prints on the floor,
Looks like he’s back for more.
Cause he’s come around once or twice
With his snake-oil sage advice.
But this time he’s offering
A new flavor of poison,
Yeah he’s crowned himself the king
Of my neurosis.
There’s a devil in my dining room,
And he’s sippin' on a glass of whiskey.
There’s a devil in my dining room,
And I don’t think he’ll ever leave me.
There's a devil in my dining room,
And he's smokin' like a goddamn chimney.
There's a devil in my dining room,
And I know that he'll never leave me.
Well he whispers in my ears
And he feeds to me my fears:
“They’re gonna lay it all to waste,
Defile, befoul, debase.”
So I cut out his forked tongue,
But it grew back twice as long.
Now he’s laughing in my face
With his red eyes ablaze.
There's a devil in my dining room,
And he's smokin' like a goddamn chimney,
There’s a devil in my dining room,
And I don’t think he’ll ever leave me.
There’s a devil in my dining room,
And he’s singin' hallelujah, glory hallelujah.
There's a devil in my dining room,
And I know that he'll never leave me.

Lyrics:
I been jaded,
Left swallowin' a bitter pill, well
I debated
Whether I was weepin' over whiskey spilled but
Things look brighter
Lookin' at 'em in the warm light of night, I
Soon perceived that
I still got a few aces hidden up my sleeve.
And like water into wine,
Like cacophony to rhyme,
I turn the silence into sound,
'Cause the boiler's burnin'
And the pistons are pumpin'
And there ain't no slowin' it down.
Isolated,
Old habits still singin' their sirens' song, I
Won't be swayed, yeah
I'm gonna echo down to Sellwood on up to Saint John's.

Fables

The young man's bride took her last breath
As their baby took it's first.
He wept at her side, and he cursed the skies
and he cursed the barren dirt.
And he asked the preacher, "Tell me why
must the father take my wife?"
And the preacher spoke of Job,
and of man's suffering and strife.
But all the young man heard was,
"La da da da da..."
The young man took his problem to
The gypsy down the road.
He paid her fee and he sat down
As she clutched her crystal globe.
And the gypsy said, "I hear your wife
Speak from the other side.
She's saying that she loves you,
and you'll see her in due time."
The young man told his story to
A great man of the mind.
Who told him that to worry,
It was just a waste of time.
"Remember that we're all just ants
Crawling on a rock in space.
In time, the sun will swallow us
and life will be erased."
Fables.

Another Mask
06:05
|
|||
Jagged jigsaw pieces spillin' off my table,
Notice how they land to read the daily fable,
'Cause the days are always underwhelming,
Even when the evening goes exactly how I'd hoped.
Yeah, I'm dusting off the Ouija board to call the Holy Ghost,
Skip the typic pleasantries, go right for the throat,
"If you're gonna waste my time,
Then don't be so damn surprised
When I drop you like a rotten pomegranate to the grime."
She said, "Forget about the past,
Eat the future like it's candy.
The days are made of glass,
So a hammer comes in handy.
Just carve another mask,
Add it to the stack,
Burn the book and finger paint your portrait in the ashes."
Blank page starin' like some alabaster eye,
With my words, I work to form the pupil and the iris.
I'm diggin' demons out from my brains, from my veins,
Or are they angels? Man, they both look the same.
Yeah, I'm clearin' out the cobwebs and unfastening this grudge,
Layin' out my skeletons for anyone to judge,
Or maybe I'll just prop 'em up, disguise 'em with a rhyme,
Make 'em dance and sing while I collect a pretty dime.
